Desert
Morocco , a mountainous country, takes its roots in the desert.
To the South of the Atlas mountains the Sahara extends for more than 800 km , from the Atlantic coast to the Hamada of Guir.
The desert sets in softly, barely present at the foot of the mountains, to extend itself to the south.
In Morocco , the desert is still alive, as is proven by the green Draa valley, between Zagora and Me Hamid and Djebel Sarho.
But to enter the Sahara , it is enough to cross the large rivers which traverse it, Ziz and Draa, which most of the time are nothing but dry, drained riverbeds subject to impressive and unpredictable floods.
Draa Valley
A haven of peace, of soft abundance before the pangs of the desert, the Draa valley is an immense oasis, which stretches and meanders from Agdz to Mhamid, over nearly two hundred kilometres.
Berber country, born from the union of the mountain and the desert, the meeting of water and sun, the Atlas and the Sahara , the Draa valley is unique!
Formerly, long caravans of merchant Moors crossed the area on camel back to exchange fabrics, glass beads and salt for gold, slaves, leather and pepper, in the southern parts.
